Today Rob Surette came to perform his Amazing Hero Art show! Although we were not allowed to take photos during his show, here are some videos straight from his website:

Prepositions tell position and time. They are like adverbs, however they require a few more words (phrases) to make sense. Examples: "Mom, can I go outside?" Outside is an adverb here because it's clear where you want to go. "Billy, please leave my DS just outside my room." Outside is a preposition here because if you didn't include the words "my room" after it would mean outdoors! Below are the two videos we watched in class for prepositions. The first is a list of prepositions sung to the tune of Yankee Doodle. The second is slower and shows you lots of examples of how to use prepositions in phrases. Here are more photos of animals that you requested for your research projects. You will have time during class this week to add them to your reports. Here are most of the animal photos that you have requested! I decided that photos of animals eating other animals would not be nice to post here, so I have separate photos of animals' prey.
We'll work on inserting photos during computer time. These photos are all fine for school use (the photographers want you to use them to learn for your education) but remember you would not be able to publish your writing using photos you find on Google or on most websites because of copyright laws. If you need more photos (remember the limit is 3 per typed page) or you haven't left a comment about photos you need, you can leave a comment on this post. Remember to be specific. Don't say, "I want a picture of a rabbit's habitat," say what the habitat is, such as, "Could I get a photo of a meadow?" The 100th day of school is this week! In 4th grade we will hold a 100 multiplication problems competition with Mr. Earls' class!
Although the first game I posted is no longer available, if you want to brush up on your 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication skills, you can practice here. It's not a game, however it is a good way to check your work as you complete each question. There's also a cute video here that can help you remember the steps. If you like turtles, you'll like this method! Here is a third way to practice, if you like to draw: lattice-multiplication Today someone requested links back to my old posts about multiplication, so here they are: 2-digit-by-2-digit-multiplication-with-area-models.html multiply-with-expanded-form-or-area-models.html 2-digit-by-2-digit-multiplication-with-zeroes.html Leave a comment on this post with requests for pictures for your animal reports. Be SPECIFIC.
This month, our Student of the Month goal is assertion. Assertion is about standing up for what is right.
We learned that assertion is not about being bossy or mean. It is not about bugging someone to do something you want. To be assertive, when you see someone doing something that makes you uncomfortable, and you know is wrong, here is what to do: 1. Ask them, "Did you know that what you're doing is going to hurt ____?" If they say, "Oh, I didn't know! I'm sorry!" Then you solved the problem. 2. Tell them, "Stop doing that. It's bothering me (or someone else)." Only say this once. 3. If they don't stop, say, "Stop or I'll tell." Only say this once. 4. If they don't stop, tell an adult. Of course, if you ever feel unsafe or think someone else is unsafe, you should tell right away without confronting the other person. Here is a video I created that shows you how to find the fraction of a set. (Click the link, not the picture). Remember that you can pause and go back over any parts that you need to rewatch to help you with your homework and to study for your tests.
Here is a different video on fraction of a set that I found on a Math in Focus (AKA Singapore Math) website. I didn't make it, but it shows how to use a bar model instead of circling dots. Was this video helpful? Answer in the comments below. |
