This is about a girl named Winnie Foster who was brave enough to help her friend out of jail. She used to be just an 11 year old getting to much attention from her parents. She was so tired of it that she decided to run away. The next day, when she did, she found Jesse Tuck next to a spring. The Tucks found her, and kidnapped her, and took her back to their house. Before they got to the house, they told Winnie the story of a spring that they drank from that makes them live forever, and told her not to tell anyone. Winnie had a big secret to keep.
But what they didn’t know was a man in a yellow suit, a stranger, heard them. He came up to their door the next day, and said he’ll make money of the spring, since the Fosters sold him their woods. The Tucks don’t want others to know about the spring, so Mae Tuck had no choice, but to hit him in the back of the head with a shotgun. Since the stranger invited the constable, he saw the whole thing. The stranger died after that, the constable put Mae in jail, and was going to put her in the gallows. Mae was in big trouble.
Winnie and the other Tucks wanted to help Mae out of jail. When Winnie got back home, Jesse came over the Foster’s house, and told Winnie that they have a plan to help Mae out of jail, and Miles Tuck would take Mae’s windowframe out, and let her out. On the day, they eventually got Mae out without the constable seeing. Winnie participated because Mae was her friend, and if she was hung, she would never die. That was very sneaky.
