During the Variety Show on Saturday, Mr. Smoyer played the role of King George the 3rd (King George III). Here is a painting of what he really looked like.
King George III was born in 1738, was the king during the Revolutionary War and was still king of England when the colonies became independent in 1776. He died in 1820.
Below is a few photos of a gold coin that was really used in 1820 while King George III was still alive. In England, they put a picture of their king or queen on all of their money (and stamps)!
Can you believe they used real gold for their coins back then?

The last picture is of Mr. Thomas on his birthday when I gave him the coin as a present.
England has a queen now, not a king. In addition, they elect their leaders similarly to how we elect presidents. Currently their real leader is David Cameron, and instead of president he is called Prime Minister.
Do you know the queen of England's name?
Do you know who the last king of England was? Hint: It was the current queen's father. Answer in the comments below.
